BAe System - Flight System

in Service: 1991 - 2014
Homebase: Wittmund Airbase (Germany)
used Aircraft: 1991-2001  F-100 Super Sabre
2002-2014  A-4N Skyhawk II

Since 1991 BAe Systems (former Tractor Flight Systems Inc) has had a contract with the German Air Force to fly visual target missions for German Air Force.
These "N-registered" (USA) planes serve the German Air Force for air to air gunnery training and education of military air traffic control officers.
Due to its high speed, good maneuverability and long operating time, the A-4 is perfectly suited for this role. Typically, two underwing tanks are carried. At the fuselage station electronic decoy pods or winches for target towing can be fitted.
The contract with German Air Force ended in December 2014th. BAe sells their six A-4N Skyhawk to Draken International Inc of the USA.
